The holiday season is here and with it brings festive events that we look forward to all year. From brunches to cocktail parties, family gatherings to girls nights out – we have prepared a simple yet chic makeup tutorial that are sure to get you compliments. To keep this look streamlined, we decided to focus on three areas: eyes, cheeks and lips.
EYES
When it comes to creating a holiday makeup look, the eyes do all the talking – at least we think so! We created our look using a new Too Faced holiday collection for a dramatic look and Smashbox kit for a more subdued yet still smokey look. If you love sparkle, then the Too Faced kit is going to be your new best friend. After applying an eye primer, use a damp eyeshadow brush to apply the shade “Cold Brew” from lashline to crease.
Then use the shade “Eggnog Latte” along the brow bone. For some extra dimension, we then applied “Cup of Joe” to the crease. A final dash of “Winter Dream” near the inside corner is the perfect finishing touch. After your shadow is applied, use this Too Faced liquid liner to create a mini cat eye. It stays on so well and will not smudge during the day. Finally, we used several coats of this holy grail mascara (which comes in the Too Faced kit) for impact. This mascara separates, volumizes and doesn’t flake. We have each used it for years and can’t live without it.
If you prefer a non-glittery festive eye look, then we suggest using the Smashbox eye palette included in the Light It Up kit. First apply a primer and let it dry. Use a brush to upper right brown shade all over the eye. Then use the lower right deep brown shade along the lash line and into the crease. The upper left white color is perfect to accent the brow bone. We finished the look with the same Too Faced liner and a dab of the light plum shade (bottom center) followed by several coats of mascara. This look is simple enough for daytime use too!
CHEEKS
The perfect flush of pink or peach will turn your festive makeup look up a notch. Never leave home without blush! One of the great things about this Too Faced holiday kit is it contains two blushes AND a bronzer for one fabulous deal. We each applied the shade “Peach Cobbler” to compliment our eye looks. We then used the contour kit from the Smashbox Light It Up kit to apply a light handed contour and highlight to our cheeks. A damp beauty blender is an easy way to do this. Always start with the lightest shade first and work your way to the darkest. This allows you to use one sponge to complete the look without having to wash it.
LIPS
Last but not least, a holiday look is not complete without a bright lipstick. We find pink shades work on all skin tones and give you a bold smile that compliments almost all eye makeup looks. One of our new favorites is this Melted Matte longwear lipstick by Too Faced. There are more than 15 shades to pick from and they are just $21 – and they last forever! The shade we applied is called “1998” and we love how it has a blue undertone. It stays on all day and doesn’t dry out your lips.
MAKEUP STORAGE
We keep all our makeup goodies stored in Joy Mangano makeup bags. If you have never tried one from her storage collection, you are in for a treat! These bags come in several sizes and fabrics. They accommodate so many items yet fold up into a very manageable size perfect for packing in your suitcase or carry on bag. Even when we aren’t traveling, we love keeping our makeup in these bags. Simply unroll it on your counter and you have quick access to four compartments. Our trick is keeping one area in each section: face, eyes, cheeks, and lips! Whether as a gift or for you, this storage bag is a must-have.
